With the first “Da Da” or “Ma Ma,” parents begin to gauge the progression of their children’s speech. Whether it’s a speech delay, a lisp, the “toddler accent,” or a lack of communication – speech and language development becomes a sensitive and nerve-wracking issue. The Modern Village presents Let’s Talk About Talking: Speech and Language Development in Children led by Rachel Fisch-Kaplan, the clinical director for Communikids, a full service speech-language & occupational therapy practice. This valuable class if offered Thursday, November 29th at 7 pm.
Ms. Fisch-Kaplan has extensive experience providing both therapeutic and diagnostic services for children with articulation concerns, oral motor/feeding deficits, receptive/expressive/pragmatic language delays, dysfluency, cleft palate/lip issues and autistic spectrum disorders. In this class, she will address questions many parents and care-givers of children with a variety of language acquisition issues ask.
How do we encourage language? Why is language important to cognitive development? What do we do when we can’t understand a child? What can we do when language doesn’t seem to be progressing? When should parents seek the help of professionals? Fisch-Kaplan’s approach to speech and language intervention is one where she actively collaborates with parents and teachers to foster development in children with speech and language delays. Her naturalistic therapy style relieves anxiety and promotes language learning through everyday routines and activities.
Join The Modern Village this Thursday for hands-on and invaluable information about how to help our children achieve all we know they can.
