Montclair, NJ – Start Out Fresh Intervention Advocates (S.O.F.I.A.) invites the community to attend a Domestic Violence Awareness Event on Saturday, October 28th, 2017 from 11 AM to 1 PM in the Community Service Center at 11 Pine Street in Montclair, NJ. Six short presentations will give attendees an introduction to important issues and resources for those affected by domestic violence. This event is free and open to the public.
A large part of S.O.F.I.A.’s outreach and purpose is to educate the public about the signs and effects of domestic violence. S.O.F.I.A. also aims to provide tools, resources, and information to help the friends, family, and those directly impacted by domestic abuse feel empowered to work on solutions and positive actions to eradicate domestic violence in their lives. With this in mind, this event has a diverse set of presenters that touch on a wide array of topics.
Elroy Corbitt, a certified domestic violence advocate and member of D’Vine Man will discuss “A Man’s Perspective” on being a positive and effective ally to those affected by domestic violence. Jennifer West, from NJ Legal Express, will focus on “How to Track the Abuser.” Reverend Estell Verner-David will share ideas and techniques on “How to Approach Your Faith Based Organization to Get Involved.” Blair Goode, a certified domestic violence coordinator and member of D’Vine Man, will focus on “Male Advocacy.” Claribel Garcia and Marta Jacobson will share the “Resources Offered by The Safe House.” Caitlin Byrne, a S.O.F.I.A. presenter and youth advocate, will close with “The Importance of Educating our Youth.”

Founded in 2010 is a 501(c)(3) non profit organization that provides advocacy, supportive services and referrals for temporary housing to “at risk” women and children of domestic violence. Our mission is to provide domestic violence victims and survivors with assistance and encourage them to be positive, self-sufficient and successful. The S.O.F.I.A. Success Center is a Healing and Wellness Center for Domestic Violence victims and survivors where we offer a variety of free workshops to help in the process of emotional healing and financial independence.
